Feel at home in the use of ba, daw / raw, din / rin, ho / pô, kasí, kayâ, lamang / lang, man, muna, na, namán, ngâ, pa, palá, sana, tulóy, yatà. Omit these words, and your sentences would be missing that distinctly Filipino style. Use them, and native speakers will think you are one of them.
Learn five hundred new words, grouped by topic or situation. At the end of this book, you can expect to have a vocabulary of the 1000 most frequently-used words in the language.

Best I have ever seen!

This book is the best language tool I have ever seen.
It is thorough enough to give a well based understanding, but brief enough
to be quickly useful. The teaching method is the best I have ever used,
being I have studied several languages.

I bought Book 2 after completing Book 1 to prepare for a trip to the Philippines. What great investment! I was looking for something that could give me a good foundation in grammar and good vocabulary for everyday family-type situations. These are the books. There were very helpful, as I was in rural Nueva Ecija, and many did not speak English. Everyone was surprised at how much I had learned without knowing anyone who speaks Tagalog. I made many friends in the Philippines with the help of these books. Many, many thanks to the author for his contribution to the success of my trip!!
I have studied other languages, using either conversational or grammar focuses. Both methods have their advantages and drawbacks, but the method used in this book is an excellent melding of the two methods so as to maximze the advantages of both. The books are accompanied by CDs and supported by an active website that reinforces the lessons and expands the cultural awareness. The exercises (with answers) were exactly to the point and helpful. I only wish there were about twice as many exercises as there are. The vocabulary sections in each chapter were especially helpful for the use of the each new vocabulary word in a sentence or two. They also turned out to be exactly the right set of words I needed to know. That's something I could not get out of a dictionary.
I purchased a couple of other recommended books before this set, but they were not as effective. These are the ones that taught me what I needed to know. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who has a desire to learn Tagalog, as I know they work.
There are a few minor problems with book, such as answers to exercises in the places where answers should not be. And the CDs would be a little more efficient without all the music introductions (although I like the music). But these problems are minor, and don't get in the way of the learning. Maraming salamat po, Mr. Romero!!! I hope you are successful in publishing Book 3, as I will be sure to purchase it.
